From London Pro Musica's "Italian instrumental music of the Renaissance".
Little is known about Antonio Troilo, beyond the fact that he came from Verona, and worked at nearby Vicenza.
The four pieces printed here come from his Il primo libro delle canzoni da sonare … a quatro et cinque voci, published in Venice in 1606 by Ricciardo Amadino. Troilo’s Il primo libro delle canzoni is unusual in including 5-part pieces, which are rare in the canzoni da sonar repertoire.
In this edition, the original note values have been retained. Although written with very frequent clef changes in the original, in this transcription only treble and bass clef are used.
