Besides Buxtehude’s fourteen trio sonatas, published as Op.1 and Op.2 shortly before the end of the 17th century, some further instrumental sonatas have come down to us in manuscript form. One of this group is this sonata for violin, viola da gamba and basso continuo. It is distinguished by its simple and clear structure: two ostinato sections (Chaconnes) are separated by a merely ten-measure long Adagio.
