This concerto is reconstructed from cantata movements 169/1, 169/5 and 49/1, and the Harpsichord Concerto in E major BWV 1053. There is an appendix containing an alternative slow movement (the Sinfonia from Cantata 156, Harpsichord Concerto BWV 1056/2) and much to read in Andrew Robinson’s detailed introduction.
This piece will be a very welcome addition to the tenor repertoire in particular, with a rewarding solo part.
Peacock Press is publishing two reconstructions of Bach’s concertos, arranged for a recorder with a keyboard reduction of the orchestral parts. Concerto no. 1 available -> here.
