This set of Quintets was published in 1609 by William Brade (1560-1630). Apparently born in England, he lived and worked most of his life in northern Germany and Denmark.  His music has a decidedly continental feel with English overtones.  As a “transitional” composer between the Renaissance and Baroque styles, his music often has an antiquated feel to it while looking forward to the Baroque. As such, this edition makes minimal use of ficta and edits to give the performer a better opportunity to experience the Quintets as Brade originally wrote them. To accommodate both string and windplayers, the Alto and Tenor parts are provided in both G- and F- Clefs.  For recorder consorts, the typicalscoring is SSATB, or at “eight foot” pitch, TTB,GB,CB.
