Pairs of keyboard instruments have been used in chamber music since the 16th century, and one of the main Baroque traditions comes from the Bach family: Johann Sebastian Bach, followed by his sons and pupils, created a series of concertos, sonatas, fugues and duets which could be played upon a variety of keyboard instruments.
This volume of arrangements covers a century of works, from Bach's most important predecessor to his last pupil, including music by Buxtehude, Vivaldi, Weiss, Telemann, Ernst, Krebs, C. P. E. Bach and Müthel. The originals are works for orchestra, chamber ensemble or organ, and have been arranged for performance on most keyboard instruments, including harpsichord, clavichord, organ and piano.
Francis Knights is a musicologist, editor and writer specializing in Renaissance and Baroque repertoire. As a performer, his most recent recital series have included the complete Tudor keyboard repertoire, and all of Bach's keyboard and organ works.
Volume 1 (Keyboard 1) & Volume 2 (Keyboard 2) included.
